Greetings dear friends. Yes, I know it’s been a long time since I’ve written . . . and no, this is not an April Fool’s joke. I’m really here, and it really is the month in which our first novel is coming out. It will be available on Amazon on April 15th, and our launch will be at Magee’s Bakery on East Main Street in Lexington on April 28th. Food, fun and coffee from 6 – 8 PM, along with the opportunity to purchase autographed copies of the book. (And no, there are no discounts for getting it autographed!!)
So, what’s been happening? Well, strange as it may seem, I was still making final changes in the text this week. On Wednesday, however, I accepted the final proof. The book has been “put to bed!”
I have ordered 70 copies of the book to get me through the first week or two of publication. On Thursday of this week I will be going to the three network affiliates in town (WKYT – CBS; WTVQ- ABC; WLEX -NBC). I will be appearing on talk shows on all three stations in the week leading up to the launch, and I’ll be dropping off books for the producers and on-air personalities of all three shows this week in the hope that at least one or two of them might actually read the book before I meet with them on-air. As you can imagine, I’m thinking it would make a huge difference if they said something like, “I’ve just finished the book. It’s better than Gone With The Wind.” Well, that might be a stretch, but you get the idea.
I’m still in the process of making some decisions about whether or not it makes sense to go directly onto Amazon and Kindle Unlimited (which has lots of restrictions but is certainly the elephant in the publishing room) or doing “Open publishing.” That means you show up anywhere people might buy books . . . except Kindle Unlimited. It also means you get no support from Amazon. I’ve got to make a decision very soon and I’m still unclear as to the best way to go. (PS – Amazon Unlimited is definitely my long-term strategy, but it might make sense to go Open for a little while first.)
Thanks for reading. Please feel free to share any ideas you have or ask any questions you’d like. Not sure I have any good answers, but glad to let you know what I’m thinking.
